Cypress Flag Football Sets Sights on the OEC Tournament
In their inaugural season, the Chargers lead the OEC
CYPRESS, CA - Cypress flag football (17-5, 4-2 OEC) is heading into their first playoff appearance as nationally ranked No. 6. They are currently tied for first in the conference against Irvine Valley (13-4, 4-2 OEC).
Quarterback Mia Cabral will be at the forefront of the offense. She poses as a dual threat, being able to both pass the ball effectively and make long runs. She is also one of the main punt returners. On the season, she has thrown for over 1000 yards and 17 touchdowns. Cabral has recorded a completion rate of almost 53%, throwing just 5 interceptions in 22 games.
Devoni Ray has shown her ability to play on both sides of the ball when need be. Serving as the primary pass rusher, Ray has 9 sacks on the season and 2 interceptions. On offense, she averages 23 yards per reception and has recorded over 800 receiving yards. Melony Bernabe has also been crucial to the offense, tallying over 600 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns.
Cypress will face Saddleback (16-5, 2-4 OEC) in the conference semifinals. The two teams have been battling with each other all season., facing off on 3 separate occasions. Cypress won 2 of the 3 matchups in competitive fashion. None of the contests had over a 6 point difference, showing the strength of both team's defenses.
