Cypress College Women's Flag Football Earns County Recognition
Cypress College President Dr. Thayer highlights flag football's inaugural season.
ANAHEIM, CA - Cypress flag football (15-5, 3-2 OEC) was recognized at a NOCCCD Board Meeting on Tuesday, April 14th. Their success was recognized by Cypress College President Dr. Thayer amidst his "State of the College" presentation.
This is Cypress's first year of having a flag football team. Currently, they are leading the OEC with a 15-5 overall record. During conference play, they have recorded 3 wins and 2 losses.
Mia Cabral has consistently performed as Cypress's quarterback. She has passed for over 1000 yards and 17 touchdowns. She has a completion rate of 52.5% overall and 60% during conference competition. Two-way player Devoni Ray has been impactful on both offense and defense, tallying up 28 solo tackles on the season. 9 of those 28 tackles were sacks. Ray has 2 interceptions on the year, returning one of them for a touchdown. She has 483 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns, averaging 80.5 receiving yards per game. Alisa Kangas has made her presence felt on the defensive end, recording 14 tackles and 6 interceptions on the year.
As a unit, the Chargers have found themselves in the top 10 of JC Gridiron's national rankings. They have maintained a win percentage of 60% for the whole season and look to keep this momentum heading into the OEC Playoffs.
