Cypress Takes Their Talent to the Pasadena Invitational
Chargers Finish Fourth in Pasadena Invitational
PASADENA, CA - The Cypress Men's Swim & Dive team competed in the Pasadena Invitational earning fourth out of seven teams with a score of 342.5.
The men started off competing in the 200 yard freestyle relay and received a time of 1:34.67 earning fifth place. Eoin Owen Tannehill followed with the individual events in the 500 yard free with a recorded time of 4:53:20 and getting second place. In the most popular event which is the 50 yard freestyle 5 of the men from Cypress competed including Gio Demuro, Porter Rosenlof, Jose Limon, Matthew Lucio, and Jason Santos. In the end it was a very close battle for first place with Gio Demuro and a swimmer from Ventura College going at it. The result ended in a tie and it showed Demuro's resiliency and tremendous effort to get a time of 21.77. Matthew Lucio swam the 200 yard freestyle event resulting in a time of 2:14.71. His split times indicated he was off to a hot start and was able to maintain time each one of his 50s. He secured ninth place out of the 23 people competing. Demuro continued the middle of the meet with strong power and speed earning second place in the 100 yard butterfly. He had a time of 53.18 proving he has the ability to have great underwater kicks across the pool. By event 16 the 200 yard backstroke Eoin Owen Tannehill kept the momentum going with a second place finish and a time of 2:05.33. Tannehill utilized his fast flip turns and distance per stroke to help him succeed. In the 100 yard breaststroke Jose Limon and Jason Santos both showcased their strong underwater pulldowns and used that to help them find a rhythm early on in the race. Jose Limon tied for ninth place with a 1:13.95 while Santos received a 1:20.98. When diving came around Porter Rosenlof earned third place in the 3 meter and fourth in the 1 meter. The Cypress relay team also participated in the 200 yard medley and received fourth place with a time of 1:49.81. River Nerhus and Gio Demuro went up against each other in the 100 yard backstroke. Demuro finished in third place with a 56.50. Eoin Tannehill wasn't done yet for the weekend as he had to save some endurance for the 1650 freestyle. He had to utilize his breath control and ended up in an impressive first place finish. Gio Demuro, Porter Rosenlof, Jose Limon, and River Nerhus had some friendly competition as well in the popular 100 yard freestyle. Gio came in first place while Rosenlof was a second off from finishing in the top 3. Eoin Owen Tannehill ended the meet with a 2:03.12 in the 200 yard butterfly and a first place finish. The relay team closed the session in the 400 yard relay with a fourth place finish. The Chargers had a strong weekend and hope to build on their performances in the next meet.
UP NEXT: The Chargers will compete in the SoCal Regionals for diving on Saturday, April 12 at Long Beach City College.
