Cypress Responds in Finale to Secure Series Split with Saddleback
Chargers win series against Bobcat, 2-1
CYPRESS, CA – Cypress College softball battled Saddleback across a three-game Orange Empire Conference series, earning a split with a decisive win in the finale.
Game 1: Cypress 4, Saddleback 1 (March 31 – Cypress, CA)
The Chargers opened the series with a strong 4-1 victory at home, using timely hitting and pitching to secure the win.
After three scoreless innings, Cypress broke through in the fourth before adding three runs in the fifth to take control. Lynsey Arostigue led the offense with a double and RBI, while Peyton Clark and Madylyn Wynia each drove in runs.
Despite recording just four hits, Cypress capitalized on five walks and Saddleback errors to generate offense.
In the circle, Haley Tucker delivered a complete-game performance, allowing just one unearned run on six hits while striking out five to earn the win.
Game 2: Saddleback 5, Cypress 4 (April 2 – Mission Viejo, CA)
Cypress jumped out early but couldn't hold off Saddleback's late push, falling 5-4 in a tightly contested matchup.
The Chargers plated two runs in the first inning and added two more in the third to take a 4-1 lead. However, Saddleback chipped away with runs in the third, fourth, and sixth innings to complete the comeback.
Alina Argueta and Isabela Guerrero each scored, while Laila Nunez recorded the Chargers' lone RBI. Cypress drew four walks but was limited to five hits and stranded nine runners on base.
Haley Tucker threw her second complete game of the series, allowing five runs on 10 hits in the loss.
Game 3: Cypress 8, Saddleback 6 (April 3 – Cypress, CA)
The Chargers responded in the series finale with an offensive outburst, defeating Saddleback 8-6 to secure the split.
After falling behind early, Cypress answered with a three-run third inning and continued to apply pressure, scoring in five of six innings.
Peyton Clark powered the offense with a home run and three RBIs, while Alina Argueta added a triple and RBI. Lynsey Arostigue and Breanna Aguilar also contributed key run-scoring hits.
Cypress showed patience at the plate with five walks and made the most of six hits, while Madylyn Wynia and Isabela Guerrero each scored multiple runs.
Haley Tucker capped off an impressive series in the circle, tossing her third complete game. She allowed six runs (five earned) and worked through multiple jams to secure the win.
