Cypress Baseball Caps Season at 3C2A SoCal Regional
Chargers fall to the Owls in the first round of playoffs.
GLENDORA, CA - Cypress College (28-16, 13-8 OEC) and Citrus College (33-11, 17-4 WSC) battled through a competitive three-game set in the 3C2A Regional Playoffs, with the Owls ultimately taking the series 2-1 after a decisive Game 3 victory on Sunday in Glendora.
Game 1
Cypress opened the series with a road win, edging Citrus 8-7 in a back-and-forth contest. The Chargers tallied 10 hits and scored in five different innings, including a crucial two-run eighth that proved to be the difference.
Justin Tillar paced the offense with two hits and two RBIs, while Ben Keisler turned in a perfect performance at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Travis Curry added a key home run and drove in a run, and Tyler Smith contributed with a pair of runs scored and a stolen base.
On the mound, Cypress pieced together the win behind multiple arms. Ezekiel Case earned the victory in relief, tossing two innings, while Rudy Carlos closed the door over the final two innings to secure his seventh save of the season.
Game 2
Citrus responded in Game 2, using a pair of big innings to even the series with a 12-3 victory. Cypress collected 10 hits, highlighted by multi-hit efforts from Braden Ruiz and contributions from Gavin Johnson, Wyatt Joyce, and Nick Dunch, but struggled to keep pace with Citrus' power surge. Ruiz, Travis Curry, and Dunch each drove in a run for the Chargers.
Rohan Ramos took the loss after surrendering eight runs over 5.1 innings, while the bullpen worked through the remaining frames against a relentless Citrus lineup that combined for four home runs.
Game 3
In the winner-take-all finale, Citrus capitalized early and maintained control to secure a 6-2 victory and the series win. The Owls scored two runs in the first inning and added three more in the fifth to create separation.
Cypress was limited to six hits but showed patience at the plate with six walks. Izaiah Posada led the offense with two hits and an RBI, while Braden Ruiz also drove in a run.
Jordan Daniels powered Citrus offensively, going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs, while the Owls totaled 13 hits in the contest.
Cypress baseball had 6 Chargers named to the All-OEC team and 6 Chargers named to the CCCBCA All-Academic team. Players Rocky Palacio, Derek Gonzalez, and Tyler Smith were all named All-OEC First Team. Justin Tillar, Rudy Carlos, and Mason Miles were named All-OEC Second Team. Rocky Palacio, Jackson El-Farra, Eli Kasiski, Travis Curry, Nick Dunch, and Daniel Villagomez were all named to the CCCBCA All-Academic team. The Chargers finished their season with an overall record of 28-16 and a conference record of 13-8 OEC.
