Cypress Falls Short in Conference Matchups
The Chargers drop to Orange Coast and Saddleback in close competition.
COSTA MESA, CA - Cypress College beach volleyball (9-10, 6-6 OEC) showed competitiveness Thursday, pushing both Orange Coast College (13-8, 10-3 OEC) and Saddleback (9-7, 9-3 OEC) to the brink in a pair of tightly contested 3-2 duals.
Against Orange Coast, the Chargers secured two key victories to keep the match within reach. The duo of Rachel Joung and Adaeze Handy delivered a clutch three-set comeback win (17-21, 23-21, 15-12), while Lauren Carrillo and Livi Marks followed with a strong straight-set victory (21-17, 23-21). Despite the effort, Cypress fell just short in the remaining flights as Orange Coast claimed the overall match.
Cypress carried that momentum into its matchup with Saddleback, once again battling to a 3-2 final. Keilyn Flores and Addison Riddle opened with a hard-fought three-set win (22-20, 8-21, 15-8), and Joung and Handy continued their standout day with another three-set victory (24-26, 21-16, 16-14).
